Why Zelmer


  • Interwar period

    • In the interwar period, the current premises of Zelmer SA housed a Field Kitchen and Military Equipment Manufacturer "Mars" Sp. z o.o.

  • 1937

    • In the autumn of 1937, the works started its production activity.
      Apart from machine tools, the production included multi-tool turret lathes, single-spindle automatic lathes, multi-spindle automatic lathes, radial drilling machines and military equipment - tank destroyers and antiaircraft guns, auxiliary artillery equipment



      On 20 April 1937, after the takeover of the premises from "Mars" Field Kitchen and Military Equipment Manufacturer, the construction of H. Cegielski Machine Tool Factory, Branch in Rzeszów (a private property) started.


      The plant will be situated at Hoffmanowej Street. The State Treasury indirectly participates in the plant construction by granting long-term loans.

  • Second World War

    • During the Second World War the plant was destroyed, and its machines and production halls disassembled and, together with materials and raw materials, taken away to the territory of the Third Reich.

  • 1949

    • In 1949, the workshop at Hoffmanowej Street employs 40 people. They produce nails, fencing nets, filing cabinets, scooters and frames.


      In those days, the only way to transport the manufactured equipment was… a wagon used to deliver the finished products to the Staroniwa railway station. The wagon was drawn by a good old horse – Chestnut. “Vehicles propelled by oats” were very popular and

      On 11 May 1951, the President of the Central Office for Craftwork issued a directive establishing a state-owned company "Rzeszowska Fabryka Rowerów i Wózków Dziecinnych" (the Bicycle and Pram Factory in Rzeszów).


      1951 - the number of employees increases to 234. The factory produces sports prams, children's bicycles and fencing net.

  • 1952

      1952 was the year of the strategic decision to broaden the production with vacuum cleaners and floor polishers. The plant still manufactured, among other things, prams from plywood and children's bicycles.

  • 1953

      1953 - the Design and Technology Office is established. More than 11,000 vacuum cleaners are produced.

      The manufacture of floor polishers F-1 starts too.

      First vacuum cleaners are modelled after a German vacuum cleaner with sliding mechanism. They were very popular, but their production was limited due to the lack of materials. It all changes when another company from Rzeszów, WSK, simply hands over their ration of a huge amount of this material.


      The prototype of the first vacuum cleaner is named “Gamma”. Later on, as “Alfa II”, it takes over the Polish market. Its version, Alfa K-2, will soon conquer markets in Yugoslavia, Turkey, Mongolia and Israel.

      The production also included high-capacity hotel vacuum cleaners – Helios and Delta. After some short series were manufactured, the plant withdraws them from production.

      Prices for vacuum cleaners were set in a top-down fashion. The first “Alfa” cost ca. PLN 2000 – the amount equal to a monthly salary plus bonus.

  • 1960

      In 1960, the production of vacuum cleaners reached 80,000 units

  • 1961

    • In accordance with the decision of the minister of heavy industry, Zjednoczenie Przemysłu Wyrobów Metalowych (the Union of Metal Articles Industry) was put in charge of the company. The number of employees increased to 448.

  • 1967

    • 1967 - company's trademark was registered - the word "Zelmer" was put over the stylized sun in a circle.

  • 1969

      1969 - the manufacture of vacuum cleaners "Zelmer 03" and "Alfa K-2L" and commutator motors for vacuum cleaners starts. These articles, together with the brush floor polisher, receive the quality mark "1". Zelmer already has over 1,000 employees.

  • 1970

    • The agreement with a Swiss company Rottel opens almost all European markets for Zelmer.

      The songs “Z tobą na zawsze” by I. Santor and “Po ulicach mnie gna” by M. Koleśnik resounded when Zelmer-promoting sound cards were put on a record player.

  • 1975

      1975 - the plant's surface area increases significantly. The buildings of Department PR-60, the tool-room and Department PR-30 are put into operation. For the first time the production of commutator motors exceeds 1 million units.

  • 1983

      1983 - the number of employees exceeds 4000. Vacuum cleaner 500 is awarded the gold medal at the Poznań International Fair. Production of nozzle-brushes and churns begins.
  • 1984

      1984 - a new galvanization line is put into operation. Zelmer receives a diploma of appreciation from the Minister of Foreign Trade for outstanding achievements in export.


    • Late 1980s - Zelmer's first commercial spot. The professional spot featured a huge flying vacuum cleaner piloted by children from the "Fasolki" group.
      Until 1990s - Zelmer remains the monopolist in the market of small household appliances in Poland.

  • 1995

    • 1995 - Zelmer receives quality certificates ISO 9001 from SGS Yarsley and PCBC. As the first company in Poland, Zelmer receives the Polish Quality Award.

      2000 - Zelmer becomes the first Polish company to start sales online
  • 2001

      3 July 2001, the Minister of Treasury submits a declaration on commercialization of the state-owned company "ZELMER" with its registered office in Rzeszów, transforming it into a public company, the only shareholder of which became the State Treasury.

  • 2004

      30 November 2004, the Polish Securities and Exchange Commission (Komisja Papierów Wartościowych i Giełd) admits Zelmer's shares to public trading. On 27 January 2005, the shares of Zelmer SA make their debut on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Zelmer S.A. obtained a certificate of a stock exchange-listed company.

  • 2005

    • 2005 - the process of the company's privatization comes to an end.
  • 2006

      The company is growing fast. Its product range is also rapidly extending. It already includes almost 50 articles.

  • 2010

    • The scale of business was doubled, and the product range tripled. Zelmer is no. 1 in Poland and no. 3 brand in Central-Eastern Europe in terms of market share in small household appliances.



      In 2010, it also enjoyed record sales in Russia and Ukraine. The construction of a new plant in Rogoźnica started.

  • 2011

    • 1 January 2011 - the start of activity of the Zelmer Capital Group, including Zelmer SA, Zelmer PRO, Zelmer Market
    • 2012

      • 2012 - the search for a strategic investor begins
      • 2013

        • 22 March 2013 - BSH becomes the new owner of Zelmer

          11 June 2013 - the listing of Zelmer's shares on GPW comes to an end.

          30th December 2013 - merger of Zelmer Market Sp. z o.o. and Zelmer PRO Sp. z o.o. From this moment the Zelmer Capital Group includes: Zelmer S.A. and Zelmer PRO Sp. z o.o.

      • 2014

        • Zelmer is nominated as "Regional Brand Hub", whose aim in BSH Group is to manage regional brands: Ufesa, Profilo, Pitsos, Constructa

      • 2015

        • Production of vacuum cleaners for Bosch and Siemens as well as mincer for Bosch started in Rogoźnica.

          The hairdryer Zelmer Sensique ZHD 23800 was voted the Best Gadget in the poll "Glammies 2015" of Glamour magazine.

          30 December 2015 - The merger process consisting in the takeover of Zelmer PRO Sp. z o.o. by Zelmer S.A. is finished. Consequently, Zelmer PRO ceases to exist
