Press release by Zelmer - ECO

2014-06-13

Effective 1 September 2014, all vacuum cleaners (except of wet, wet and dry, battery operated and robot varieties) placed on the European Union market will be required to bear an energy label that is already well-known to customers looking for washing machines and refrigerators. The requirement is in alignment with the European Union’s strategy aiming to limit greenhouse gas emissions and striving to achieve more efficient use of electricity. The label, placed on new vacuum cleaners, provides crucial information about energy consumption, noise level, cleaning performance and dust re-emission.

ENERGY LABEL

I. NAME OF THE SUPPLIER OR TRADE MARK

II. MODEL NUMBER
Specific model number

III. ENERGY EFFICIENCY CLASS

Indicates primarily on electricity consumption and is slightly related to the effectiveness of collecting dust. Energy efficiency class is marked on a scale from A to G, and graphically in the form of arrows in different colors. The scale begins with the letter A, which represents the highest efficiency.

IV. AVERAGE ANNUAL ENERGY CONSUMPTION (kWh / year)

Specifies the value of the energy consumed in a year assuming 50 cleaning cycles of surface measuring 87 m2.

V. DUST RE-EMISSION CLASS

Specifies purity of the exhaust air by a vacuum cleaner. One of the key factors that determine the class of re-emission of dust is the quality of the applied filters. Class remission dust is marked on a scale from A to G, where A is the highest class.

VIII. SOUND POWER LEVEL [dB]

Indicates sound power level of vacuum cleaner measured in decibels (dB).

VI. CLEANING PERFORMANCE CLASS ON THE CARPET

Specifies effectiveness of collecting dust from the carpet.

VII. CLEANING PERFORMANCE CLASS ON THE HARD FLOOR

Specifies effectiveness of collecting dust from the carpet with hardwood floors with slots.

The opportunity will be also taken to introduce a power rating cap of 1600W and to define a minimum carpet and hard floor cleaning effectiveness of 70 and 95 per cent respectively. This means that energy efficient and well performing vacuum cleaners will be promoted, as only devices characterized by low energy consumption and high cleaning effectiveness will be awarded better label categories.
The new regulations offer numerous advantages for the consumers, who will be now able to compare various products in a simple and clear manner and to select an appliance that best suits their specific needs. The vacuum cleaners will become more energy efficient, quieter and more effective, hence reducing the amount of time the user has to spend operating them.  The manufacturers will be forced to develop ever more advanced and efficient solutions too.

The Zelmer brand has been enjoying consumers’ unwavering trust for a number of years now, as evidenced by the “Golden Consumer Laurel 2014” awarded in the category of vacuum cleaners - a recognition we have been presented with for a few times in a row. Deeply satisfied with the award we have been granted, we have the pleasure of announcing our readiness to comply with the new, strict requirements. Soon we will introduce to the market a new range of highly effective and energy efficient vacuum cleaners.
